Hi, I’m Tim Freed, the owner and sharpener behind San Diego Veteran Owned Knife Sharpening!
I’m a long-time San Diego resident, originally from Orange County. I enlisted in the Navy in 1994 and have called San Diego home since 1995. I started my career as an F-14 mechanic at NAS Miramar and later became the squadron expediter at VMFAT-101, MCAS Miramar. Today, I still work with the Navy here in San Diego for my day job.
My journey into knife sharpening started out of necessity—I tried every handheld sharpener out there and never found one that truly worked. After a lot of trial and error, I discovered the right tools and techniques, honed my skills, and realized how valuable a proper sharpening service could be.
With the rising cost of living in San Diego and two teenage daughters to support, I wanted a side job that lets me serve my community while making ends meet. That’s why I started this local knife sharpening business—to provide my neighbors with professional sharpening at a fair price.
